Membership in the Church
In the New Testament, souls were added to the church when they were saved from their sins. Humanity's greatest problem is sin. Sin separates one from God and unless forgiveness is found, will cause a person to be lost for all eternity.
Fortunately, we have not been left to die in our sins without the opportunity for forgiveness. God sent His son, Jesus to die in our place. He shed His blood on the cross so that through His blood, our sins might be forgiven (Matthew 26:28) salvation is available to us if we place our faith in His sacrifice as the price for the sins.
But what must we do to be saved? First, we must believe the message (John 3:16). We must express our faith by repenting, or turning away, from your sins (Acts 2:38). We must also confess that Jesus is God's Son (Romans 10:10). And we must experience the new birth by being immersed into Christ for the forgiveness of our sins (Acts 2:38; Mark 16:16; Galatians 3:27).
When we are saved, we are added to the church. We become part of the family of God. God is our Father and other believers become our brothers and sisters eternal life with God in Heaven.
