WHO WE OUR

THE RAVENNA CHURCH OF CHRIST

In 1952 a small group of Christians from nearby congregations began meeting in what is known as the Jensen Hall in downtown Ravenna.  During the invitation of the services on June 1st, 1952, thirteen people came forward letting it be known that they were willing to start a congregation in Ravenna.  They were our first members.

Brother L.J. Nickles and Samuel Giffen continued to speak to the congregation as it grew in size and faith.  In 1953, the Beech Street property was purchased and work began on a basement.  When the basement was finished, the congregation met there as they worked to complete the building.  On October 2, 1955, after much hard work, the building was dedicated to the Lord's work.  Brother George LeMasters spoke at that Sunday morning worship, and Brother Lawrence J. Gardner spoke that afternoon with about 180 in attendance.

The congregation continued to grow and flourish and in 1976, land was purchased on Summit Road in anticipation of construction of a new Building.  We have been worshiping in the new building since the Fall of 1998.

We continue to work and serve the Lord just as our founding Elders did.  As they urged us years ago, we continue to, "...bind together the followers of Jesus Christ for the purpose of worshipping God..." and saving souls according to the authority of the Bible.
